Stevenson PACT’s Cooking Program turns math, science, social studies, and other subjects into meaningful, hands-on culinary experiences, giving students the chance to learn by doing—chopping, mixing, measuring, tasting, and exploring in a real kitchen environment.Â
Students build practical kitchen skills, try new foods, work together as teams, and gain confidence as they create something they’re proud of.Â
Classroom Cooking Parent Volunteers design and lead 4-6 cooking lessons for their classroom over the course of the school year, collaborating with their teacher to integrate classroom themes and curriculum. They also serve on the school-wide Cooking Committee!
PACT Cooking Committee Members help keep the PACT kitchen running smoothly by and promote our cooking program at school-wide events.Â
“Students harvested, shelled, and prepared the fava beans they grew in their PACT gardening class! . . . While waiting for the beans to blanch, we shared the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk, which sparked excitement and curiosity as the children realized they were cooking with their own magic beans.”Â
“In our first cooking class for Grade 4, we made yogurt parfaits, and the kids absolutely loved it. They had so much fun assembling the layers—each parfait turned out totally unique, with everyone adding their own creative style. They were beyond thrilled to use kid-safe knives and chop up fruit themselves, and you could really see their confidence grow as they worked.”
“We also learned how yogurt is made and walked through the full process, which sparked a lot of curiosity. The highlight was how excited they were to discover that yogurt contains “living bacteria” , they were amazed (and weirdly proud!) to be eating something that’s alive and good for you. It was such an incredible moment, and they genuinely enjoyed every part of it.”
